This is Braun's replacement to the 8595 Activator shaver. Changes are subtle and many of the proven existing technologies remain.

The main upgrade is a redesigned foil with a new cutter and a more radical integral trimmer designed to catch the longer rogue hairs while stimulating the skin to help normally missed hairs stand up and be cut.

The overall shape is similar to the Activator range and the clean and charge unit is the same item that worked well before.

This is a great value for money investment. At 74 my growth is quite well established and I have been a wet shaver all my life. Unfortunately a slight hand shake gave me the odd skin nick, so a change was due for me.

Bought this razor the other day after using my dads because i had no mach3 blades left. I hadn't used an electric razor before. After using his before i went out for the night i was well impressed so i bought 1.

It came really quick i was well chuffed so much so that i am back on line today to get 1 for my unkle. This is a serious bit of kit, my girlfriend also loves this shaver as my stubble was doing her head in deffo go for this braun, it's dynamite.

My Remmington Titanium gave up the ghost after 2 years. After reading all the positive reviews on Shavers.co.uk I decided to buy this one. I have used the 8995 for about 4 months now. The shaver is fairly quiet, well engineered and the cleaning system very good.

But that doesn't redeem it from position of the worse shaver I have ever owned.

I find it impossible to get a good shave from the 8995 without dedicating 10-15 minutes repeatedly going over parts of my face that it will not cut. I'm not talking about 'difficult'...

Still get a few minor ingrown hairs but not nearly as meny as I did from a Mach3. Gives a nice comfortable close shave.

I give it a 9 because it sometimes leaves flat lying hairs but its not a real problems as I just clip them with some small hair scissors, only takes a few seconds. Also the case that it comes with doesnt stay closed very well. If you are travelling it could easily fly open in your bag, im tempted to tape it down.

Cleaning station is excellent, still says full after 3weeks of daily use. Refills are dirt cheap so no complaints there.

Shave possibly does not suit all especially if you move from rotary type, but very powerful.Tip I found the trimmer picked out the odd stray hairs for a final finished shave.

First of all, unlike some of the reviews below, I have owned this product for more than a few days. Here's my thoughts.

The shave is closer than the Phillishave CoolSkin that I used to have.

However, I found that neither Phillishave CoolSkin nor Braun 8995 360 Complete shave as close as a Gillette Mach 3 Turbo or Gillette Fusion razor.

In comparison, a Gillette shave meant I could shave every two days. Quite a difference.

However, electric razors are still very worthwhile as Gillette razors create a rash on one side of my neck. That's something that the Braun 8995 360 Complete avoided doing. I think this is by virtue of being less sharp than a Gillette razor.

My Braun 8995 360 Complete stopped working after two years and one month!

I point out that majority of Braun razors have a two year manufacturer warranty.

To pay for what was at the time the most expensive razor on the market, only for it to fail one month outside its warranty indicates poor manufacturing.

A) Razor unit itself has become broken as follows: now make an unbearably VERY loud sound even though everything is fitted correctly. It wakes people up! Taking off the foil has the noise still occurring. (I had replaced cutter/foil after 18 months Braun advises.)

B) Clean & Renew broke. Red light is permanently on. It won't do any cleaning, even though the razor unit's LCD says "Intensive Clean Required". But Mr Clean & Renew begs to differ. Red light forever. (I had replaced the Clean & Renew blue fluid cartridge only the week before.)

I would like to confirm Tracy's earlier post. Shavers.co.uk response to her post is incorrect.

After 2 years, the painted plastic degrades on the back of the shaver where it has come into contact with the cleaning fluid. The casing on my shaver now is very pitted & starting to crack. (I look after all my electronic products very carefully).

Had mine for 14 months now - big improvement on previous Braun activator range - gives really smooth shave & copes with those long hairs too. Trimmer works well. Bought this after my previous braun was stolen. I expected it to be better than my old one but I was disappointed.

The middle part which is supposed to get stray hairs doesn't work that well on the neck. The trimmer is alright for your sideburns but for cutting stray hairs on the neck or face its not very efficient. The patterned cutting foil I'm not convinced is an improvment.

Firstly the service from Olimpic shavers was and is outstanding.
Unfortunatly the shaver was not so good. I found it to give a very poor cut and leave me with a sore neck area.
However being a bit of a try it and see type of guy I wanted to see if the cutter from my old 5416 would fit this foil as I found my old shaver to give a very good shave.

When i changed them over not only did it cut better but no rash and at last the clames of the closest shave ever where true. It is slightly nosier though and i guess that is why thay changed it, but it well worth it for the increase in performance. And no it does not dammage the standerd foil it just works better.
Incidently my old shaver with the cutter from the 8995 gives a bad cut and me sore neck! what more can I say other than what were braun thinking?
Cleaning system is very good though.

Give it a try all you need is to buy a 505 cutter pack and fit it with the 8995 foil.

I contacted Olympic and Kevin was brilliant and understanding he put me onto a Braun 5895 with the old design foil and cutter, which works well, but not as good as my old Braun 6550. I think I am going to use some of my Xmas money and purchase a Panasonic ES8163 after reading the reviews on this site.

Very disappointing,especially for the cost.Does not shave particularly close and is very slow. (not as good as my 6 year old remington). Cleaning system an expensive gimmick!

A really great shave and it says I should allow 3 weeks for my skin to get used to it, so it could get even better. It took 4 days to arrive though (thanks, Parcelforce) but, when I called you to ask about delivery, it was a delight to speak to people who really cared.

If this shaver has the same longevity as my 6550 I'd be amazed, but I know where I'll be buying my next Braun from, not to mention the spares. Thanks guys!

i have had braun shavers before but this this is the best one i have had i like the way you have a clean smooth shave with it. i would recomend this shaver to anyone that wants that close smooth feeling after a shave.

I inherited an 8595 Activator with 500 shaves on the clock and was amazed how closely it shaved - better than a Mach 2 wetshave! Deciding to treat myself, I purchased the latest 8995 360. I have to say that I'm disappointed with the closeness of shave; it's not a patch on the Activator!

What used to take 4 minutes on the Activator now takes 7-8 minutes with the 360, and still leaves uncaptured l...

After being a wet shave tester for over 20 years, I went back to the convenience of electric this year, with an 8995. Can only say that this shaver is everything I expected and more. It gives a good close shave and causes no irritation, even with my sensitive skin. The self cleaning system is a revelation and removes forever what I used to regard as the main problem with electric shavers. It's a great buy and I can recommend it without hesitation.

I was previously using the 7000 series over the last four years and so thought I'd upgrade. The 8995 is far superior. It really does give an extremely good close shave in no time. It's also lighter and considerably quieter in both operation and self cleaning modes. I would highly recommend this shaver to anybody considering a purchase.

Firstly; great service from shavers.co.uk - cannot be beten on this. The shaver however is not; yes it is quiet and the shaves feel good however it does cut very sharp. This has led to me having ingrown hairs for the first time in 35 yrs and there have been lot's on the neck (where the shaver let's itself down). I have went back to my trusty old Braun 5612; which I got from here and all is resolved.

I have been using MachIII blades for the last 7-8 years and just got bored of wet-shaving, and then with paying extortionate costs every month to replace blades I had used maybe 2-3 times. Blades were costing me upto £10 a month. I figured I would bite the bullet and go back to electric but didnt want to go the cheap route and my last razor (an old remington) was not self clean - I hated cleaning it...

Delivery, I had read it was good but never truly believed it, then 48hours later a card was pushed through my door asking me to pickup my parcel from the post-office. Superb!!

I got it home, unpacked it - charged the razor after inserting the cleaning fluid, then cleaned it before using it. It was so comfortable and really did Shave As Close As A Blade but without the usual irritation. I then used the trimmer - a bit tricky to get used to but incredibly accurate and effective.

The ONLY downside is the instructions - I am unsure about the cleaning regime and it is not very clear in the manual.

So I have to give 9/10.

I would have give 10/10 but for the manual or for the fact that it doesnt actually shave me while i am asleep and then wake me up with a coffee.

I took delivery of this razor a couple of days ago, having previously owned the Braun Synchro. The Braun range has improved so much, and this is the top of the range.

You will not be dissapointed with this razor, it is fantastic, very smooth and my throat is smooth for the first time in as long as I can remember! Highly recommended.
