I upgraded from the series 7 have had it for 5 years it started to play up (was making a really loud noise and wasn’t cutting as well as it used to). The series 9 is a big step up shave quality wise. A couple of key points: (1) it cuts closer than the series 7 when used “dry” - the old series 7 never used to get anyway near as close particularly on my neck. A tip for when shaving dry is to use talc powder on you face first to get it nice and dry and also help stand your whiskers up (2) it’s a lot quieter and is more quicker / efficient - I can get a dry shave done now (which is pretty close) done in under 5 mins. Never would have done that with the series 7 where I would have been going over and over parts of my neck and lip to get a close shave. With the series 9 this isn’t required. (3) it’s a lot kinder / sensitive to the skin. I used to regularly get razor burn and nicks/cuts if I was looking for a close shave with the series 7, particularly when using wet I.e. with shave gel in the shower. The series 9 is a compete step up in this space - I’ve used for a week (about 5 shaves) and now burn or nicks and I’ve got a closer shave. My tips to get a super close shave which I would say is as comparable to a razor as you can get without the nicks etc with this thing is to: (1) first shave with it dry - use talc powder over you face and neck then go at it for about 5 mins (2) jump in a warm shower - then use the razor with some king of shaves shave gel For me I get the closest shave using this method. You’re never going to get as close as a blade with an electric as the cutting /shave process is different (blade manages to shave almost under the skin where as an electric shears as close to it as possible I think!). I would recommending buying this thing for £150. I wouldn’t waste the money on getting the cleaning station - my tip to clean the razor is to run it under the tap with it turned on full to get a bit of pressure (use a bit of warm water and mild liquid soap like Johnson’s baby wash or similar). Then to properly clean it I have bought a big bottle of rubble alcohol from amazon for under £5 - which I transfer it into a small spray bottle and give the razor head a good few sprays and it hygienically cleans the razor and also flushed out all the hairs too. I had the cleaning station with the series 7 and just didn’t rate it to be honest. One last thing which was a very pleasant surprise when I bought the series 9 from shavers.co.uk - they added in a free braun beard trimmer (a decent one too). I don’t have a beard but I plan to use it to trim chest/ leg hair etc.
Had a Series 5 for many years and very good, but this series 9 is better, much quieter and less vibration. So very happy - and they included a separate beard trimmer, which must be worth a bit, for free! And next day delivery - brilliant.
