Panasonic ES-LA93 Pro Curve Men's Electric Shaver Reviews

Disappointing and Over-priced

I have used the Remington MS32700 for some time, but tried the Panasonic ES-LA93 recently after having read some reviews.

It took 50% longer to get a worse shave at several times the price, so I went back to the Remington. Maybe the Panasonic can't cope with a heavy beard.

Using it to wet shave was quicker, but still not as good as the Remington.

The Best

I have previously had Braun electric shavers and although I thought they were a good shave this one is in a totally different category.

My wife decided the Braun's were not lasting and bought me this after reading other reviews - I can now honestly say the best electric shave ever and it is more than equal to a wet shave (which of course I can also have with this razor if required).

Top of the Range Shaver is a good description.

Close shave with style

I got pretty fed up paying up to £23 for eight razor blades; that was 7 weeks rent when I started work so expect to pay £1050 for 8 blades in 45 years time! Time to go back to electric.

I have never owned what I would call a really good electric razor, consequently I never got a long lasting shave, but believing that you get what you pay for, I decided to give the Panasonic-ES-LA93 a go.

I used it wet initially and was amazed that it shaved as close as a blade and was just as fast too. Lately I have been using it dry and it still goes pretty close but maybe the shave doesn't last quite so long. It is very smooth and comfortable to use, and cuts whiskers on the first sweep. This means that you can get a really close shave in less than five minutes. I won't be going back to conventional blades again. I begrudge subsidising multi-million pound commercials and already overpaid footballers; this electric does a very good job with far less hassle.

One thing I should mention is that if you have a beard and only shave partially, I think this would make keeping your trim look a cinch. With a few days growth I have shaped a shadow beard in no time, just for laughs, but I have almost been tempted to grow one. Maybe when I have had my money's worth!

There are one or two niggles but they don't concern the actual shave. One is that the flip up trimmer can become very stiff after a short time. Presumeably this is because any lubricant has washed off. A drop of shaving oil would probably help. The rather noisy washing unit seems a bit of overkill taking nearly two hours to wash and dry. If you leave the razor with the head off, it will dry in the same time naturally. The 'flashing light' charged indicator is a put off in a dark bedroom. OK it's finished charging but do we need to be told 24/7? One minute every hour would be much more sociable and I resent being treated like a moron by a razor.

All in all it's a great shaver. Worth the money? Worth is only what people will pay and this must be the upper limit. Black was a slick marketing touch to test the threshold. I suspect I could have dropped a few notches on the Panasonic range and still got the same shave. The Panasonic Premium ES-RF31 Wet and Dry Four-Blade Men's Shaver appears to have the same 4 blade head, which is the key to the speed and closeness of the shave, and if I knew what I know now, I probably would have saved myself £225, (I paid £300 at launch); I think I would have been impressed with the value as much as the shave. Still, if you black's your colour, go ahead.
