The LV97 is an excellent shaving tool - for me the closest electric shave ever & the nearest thing approaching a conventional wet razor. Had been using a Braun Series 9, but needing a new cutting head I decided to look around at what else is now available. Pretty much all the reviews of the LV97 are accurate: it shaves closer than the Braun Series 9 and has a much more refined sound and feel, but it is not quite as comfortable. In my experience you might just get away without using a pre-electric prep with the Braun, but not with the Panasonic. With the Braun I used Lab Series Pre-Electric Lotion or sometimes King of Shaves Sensitive Gel (wet): both work well. Used both with the Panasonic but the Lab Series pre-electric probably worked better; also tried a Blocmen powder stick with the Panasonic and that works extremely well too. I feel the Panasonic cleaning system is more thorough than the Braun and a bit cheaper too because you just buy sachets of fluid concentrate instead of Braun's cartridges. Overall, I'm very happy with the LV97 system; the service from Shavers was impeccable and I have no hesitation in recommending them.
Previously had a Panasonic ES-LV95 which had done good service over a number of years. The time had come for a new Clean & Charge unit and a new head assembly and for almost the same price I could have the updated model due to a January sale at Shavers - so no real question - I went for the new LV95 with clean and charge unit. In many ways the old and new shaver are very similar. They both give an excellent close shaver and are very easy to clean in the unit. The new 97 has a better grip with the front lip fitting nicely under the thumb and I do think that the movement and mobility of the shaving head is possibly a little more flexible than the LV95 - but perhaps that was down to 'old age' (shaver not me!). Both are also similar in that the Clean &Charge unit is noisy in operation but it does do a very effective clean, so can't really complain although I did hope before purchase ha it might be a bit quieter. Overall an excellent purchase which I would not hesitate to recommend.
