Wahl originally and still do market this shaver/trimmer as designed specifically for a black man who traditionally suffers more from in-growing hair due to hair that is more curly and more prone to inwards growth than those whose hair is straighter. However anyone could suffer from in-growing hairs and this trimmer is an ideal choice.
The trimmer is designed to glide along the surface of the skin, straightening and trimming the hairs as it moves. Due to the design of the blade the cut it gives generally leaves a blunt edge to the hair which is less likely to in grow, hence helping to reduce future occurrence.
One thing to hold in mind when considering this shaver is due to its trimmer like blade the shave will not be the closest. It might be worth mixing its use with a more traditional electric shaver using a foil or rotary heads for the best in all round results.
There is also a rechargeable What a Shaver Trimmer available which may be preferable for sustained home usage.
Growing up as a black teenage with really bad razor bumps can put your confidence down, but I have to say this razor is a God send.
I've used a lot of razors in my life but this is by far the best one.
In two weeks my razor bumps have vanished and I no longer need to use after shave balm.
I occasionally have to use a tweezer to pluck out two or three ingrown hairs which get missed but overall 10 out of 10.
As a 20 something Black man - rampant razor bumps are one of the banes of my life - My dad has one of these which I used over the course of a week whilst we were on holiday and combined with Bump Stopper-2.
My razor bumps completely disappeared with no recurrance until I changed back to my normal shaver which even with the use of bump stopper still caused small irritating bumps and in grown hairs. Am now eagerly waiting the arrival of my Wahl device so that I can say bye bye to them for ever!!!
