Do not look for any other shaver. Might cost you but this is by far the best I have ever had. It is unbelievably close. I have used electrics all my life (I'm 46)Remingtons, Philishave and my last twohave been Braun but last year I decided to try wet shaving.
So for 12 months I percivered and never got that close shave that everyone on the forums said you can get just burn and nicks. So two week...
Click to Read More >s ago I went back to my Braun but decided I wanted a change. So I read the reviews and bought this, funnily enough because as I had bought a Panasonic TV and I was pleased with that.
What a shave I get - so close and wet shaving is no where near it! I normally use the pre shavepowder stick but today I used Nivea shaving foam and today the closest ever - smooth, no burn fantastic and quick 3 minutes about average compaired to 15 mins for wet.
Also thankyou to Shaver.co.uk for a very efficient and quick service. Ordered on the Sunday arrived on the Tuesday, shaving Wednesday.
Try it with Shaving foam it is even better, rinsing under the hot tap as you go, it glides over your face.

Very good, rdc - 8th June 2010
This my third Panasonic (8063, and 8163)and it is certainly the best. I'd go further and say it is the best electronic shave I have had. It's quieter, it shaves closer, and I reckon that I spend 2-3 min less shaving each day.
I also have a Phillishave Aritec and this, for me, is much better

An outstanding shaver, Paul from Portugal - 26th May 2010
I bought my first Panasonic shaver a few years ago from this site, and realised then how far ahead Panasonic are with their shaver technology. Now I have bought the ES8249 and its even better. I would really defy anyone to be able to tell if you had used a normal blade or an electric, yes, it shaves that close. How? No idea, but its superb, get one.

Disappointed, WG - 19th May 2010
I have had this shaver for number of months and I am generally disappointed with it. It does not shave any closer than the Philishave I had previously and it is difficult to keep clean. I would have had another Philishave but found them unreliable (repaired after a month and then stopped working after less than two years use, Phillips would not honour their warranty)
I purchased the Panasonic based on reviews but for me it has not lived up to the hype.

Superb Product, David Horner - 30th April 2010
Having reached my mid 60s, I have used a number of shavers over the years, and always found Philishave rotary ones to be the best; but having read the praise in the reviews for this one, I decided to give it a try. I am very glad I did.

Excellent Electric Shaver, Thick Stubble Man - 29th April 2010
Having wet shaved for almost as long as I can remember and suffered the usual cuts, burns etc, I thought as technology has moved on greatly, why not try a quality electric shaver. After having read a lot about what's out there, I bought a Philips Arcitec (which was expensive to say the least) but sad to say, it didn't do a very good job, even on my neck (excuse the pun)
I admit I have a thick s...
Click to Read More >tubborn stubble which needs a shave almost everyday but I thought the Philips would at least have done a better job.
Dissaponted and after further research, I bought from Olympic Shavers the ES8249 and haven't looked back since. After getting used to it the first few times, stretching my skin properly and applying just the right pressure,I couldn't really believe how well it performed, especially on a stubble like mine. My neck doesn't become red and the finish is very smooth. Some may wish to use a pre electric shave sloution (sometimes I do).
The fact that you can use it for wet shave as well is a bonus although I haven't tried yet.
It charges quickly and the charge last quite well considering I need to shave regularly. The noise is something I got used to, like using a beard trimmer (which I do as well), they make noise as well and the display on the shaver is also useful.
The ONLY negative point is the cheap and poor looking pouch that came with it. For the price paid, Panasonic should have done better. I phoned and asked Panasonic, but they said there wasn't an alternative available.
Oh, and the service provided by Olympic Shavers was excellent, it always is.

Overpriced parts, dfranks - 24th April 2010
Shaver is okay but when the foil breaks it costs £43 for a replacement! Braun are doing the foil with cutter from £17. Seems like a rip-off to me.
super close shave, allan dowd - 11th March 2010
Many thanks to Olympic shavers for their service & advice, my previous shaver was the Braun, i am so glad i have come back to this Panosonic linear shaver, before the Braun i used for many years my old faithfull Panosonic linear.
Fantastic close shave, you will not be disappointed, perhaps the next best thing to a wet shave, I will stick to this brand of shaver for years to come, its the linear that seems to work the magic for me.

Excellent product - some issues, N Miles - 1st February 2010
My wife got me one of these at XMAS from here.
The good news is:
1) The shave is excellent, it's a little bit noisy (a different type of noise) but shaves brilliantly.
2) The cleaning unit works well.
The problems are:
1) You can't get refills for the cleaning unit. A bit like buying a car which you know you can't get serviced.
...
2) The cleaning unit is very noisy but you can finish your shave and leave it to operate while you are at work - it does a good job of cleaning.
3) The shaver display does not indicate the % charge left when it is off - you have to have the razor on to see it (unlike the older panasonic shavers).
4) There is no space in the case to put the brush - the old case had a small slot for it.
Overall - a better shave then previous models but the package needs some improvement. More seriously, no refills for the cleaning unit are available... I guess I can wash it under the tap but that's not an improvement.
Shavers.co.uk Feedback:
Please accept our apologies if you were unable to purchase refills. There was a brief UK shortage at the beginning of 2010. However we (shavers.co.uk) have made sure we carry ample reserves so if this rare situation occurs again, we'll have enough to bridge the gap. I hope this adds some reassurance!

I have used Braun shavers for many years & was looking to purchase another but having found this site & read the various reviews (most helpful) ordered a Panasonic ES8249. Omitted to refer to your excellent service in my review of the Panasonic E8249 shaver. If only all organisations could emulate that standard!
Panasonic ES8249, A M Ellis - 26th December 2009
An excellent product. The shaver is certainly an improvement on the quality of shave compared to my previously owned Braun models. Would have given a score of ten had the cleaning system been as straight forward as the Braun. A minor quibble!
Cost of Ownership, Ben Smith - 17th December 2009
Great, if noisy, shaver. I had read the cleaning was going to cost me around £60 a year, but did not realise the foil was £45. So that's £105 a year + a new cutter block every 2 years.
It is good, just realise the hidden costs before buying one - or worse, giving one as a present!

After having the the experience of using the es8249. I challenge anybody that i can shave them closer than this mid range electric shaver. don't get me wrong i am all for new technology, but the wet shave is still the closest shave.
If you use the right products for your skin, prepare your skin correctly and take time to shave, you will be amazed. I will be delighted to any open discussions and comments... thanks pete!!!!

I read all of the reviews on this product and bought it, it's not cheap I hear you say but please do not waste your cash on any other shaver because if you do you will never know what a good shaver this is. The best will always be the best 4 ever, and second best will never be any good.

Having previously had the Panasonic '7102' which started life great but after 3 months gave a noticably poor shave, I was very doubtful on trying this machine, I can say that the advice from shavers.co.uk staff was helpful, constructive and spot on!

Doubts About The Price, JLW (Ravenshead, Notts). - 14th September 2009
I bought this shaver a couple of months ago by doing a lot of internet research. How else do you choose a shaver? you can't borrow or try before you buy. I was very sceptical that spending so much money on this item and would it be worthwhile.
I have used over the years various medium priced shavers from Braun and Remmington which seem to last about the lenghth of the guarantee and then pack in,...

Anyway this shaver is the best shave that I have ever had. It easily reached and cleanly shaved the areas that previously required constant attention and much scrubbing. It is so quick to use and gives me personally the best results that I could wish for.
Cleaning is simple, the charge lasts a long time and it feels nice to hold and use. Buy one and forget about the price, for something that you use everyday it is worth treating yourself to the best.
I called in personally to buy and was treated very well and felt valued as a customer. Highly recommended as a company, to which I have no connection this is a personal appraisal.

So much better than Braun or Philips, John Bell - 13th August 2009
Arrived 2 hours to replace a Philips Arciteq RQ1095 which I bought based on advice from Boots and compared it with the Braun 360 Sonic. Neither were brilliant but the advice was they were the best (and I was prepared to spend whatever was required)

I have had, braun, phillips, and my last purchase was a remimington. But this panasonic is the best shave of all.
I purchased the remington only 2 months ago, but it just did not shave close, you felt you had to shave again, but this panasonic is something else, best shave, close, you feel like you've had a shave.
If you can afford this its realy is the best shave, 10 out of 10.

Electric shaving is the future, Andrew Baisden - 24th July 2009
This is definitely the best shaver I have ever used, prior to it I used the Gillette Fusion Phenom Power Razor which I found to be a complete disaster and it is the reason why I chose to dry shave with an electric and not wet shave again.
When wet shaving with the Gillette Fusion Phenom Power Razor I ended up with shaving rash, traumatised face, ingrown hair and a major acne breakout which destr...
Click to Read More >oyed my confidence for like 1 month.
So I decided that I was done with it and turned to an electric razor which was what I wanted in the first place but thought it was too expensive. The only reason I chose to do wet shaving in the first place was because I assumed it was cheaper and better.
However, with this experience I have now learned that if you add it all up you are paying more for wet shaving because you have to buy the razor, replacement blades, shaving foam, aftershave and other things should problems arise compared to shaving with an electric.
It costs more at first but pays for itself in the long run as you only need to purchase replacement foil blades once every six months or cleaning cartridge if it has a cleaning station which I don't need to use on this model as it can be cleaned under the tap.
Anyway when I first used this shaver I have to admit I was not too convinced as the shave was nowhere near as close as a wet shave and it seemed to be missing areas on my face so I ended up with areas of hair on my face that I could not shave off and I was tempted to use the Gillette but I did NOT want to go back to that nightmare again so I decided to give it a chance as they do say it takes 1 month for your face to adapt to any new shaving method.
Well it's been a few months now and I have got to say this shaver has given me the best shave I have ever had and has completely eliminated the problems caused by wet shaving. That means no more shaving rash, ingrown hair, traumatised face or acne breakout!
The shave it gives is very comfortable so comfortable in fact that you would think it's not doing anything but really it is! My skin feels so much better now this has got to be the best electric shaver you can buy and worth the price I paid for it. I guess more money does equal more quality in this case.
It's still not as close as a wet shave and it does miss areas sometimes which I hope won't be the case when I'm fully used to it but that's a minor drawback if it means that I don't have to go through the hell of a wet shave. And let's not forget that this is so much faster than wet shaving anyway the convenience makes it real value for money.
The only issue I have is that it can be a bit loud at times but not the loudest electric shaver out there! In fact I was considering buying the Braun 790cc Series 7 Shaver which is just about on par with this but has a better cleaning system until I heard people say that it's so loud and sounds like an angry wasp!
Well I didn't think it could be that loud until I saw a video review of it in action and they are right it is SO loud and when you use the cleaning system its even LOUDER that was enough to turn me off the Braun 790cc Series 7 Shaver. Anyway back on topic the Panasonic ES8249 Pro Curve is a excellent shaver and the best you can buy right now I highly recommend it!
Ps. It comes with a two pin plug if you live in a country that uses 3 pin plugs you will need an adaptor to charge it!

I used my new 8249 for the first time this morning after a gym session with a small amount of shaving gel in the showers and the result ... well after 35 years of using a blade eg Mach 3, was ... fantastic.
It's as good as the Mach 3 and doesn't leave my neck stinging. Why did I wait all these years to change (I'm now 53). The reviews on this site finally convinced me to buy one this week.

The cleaning unit though louder than what I expected works well.

Using this shaver allows me to quickly shave every day. If I did that with my Braun 8995 my face would burn and bleed even though the old shaver was cleaned and charged every use and new foil and cutter fitted every 6 months.

I was looking for the best electric shaver I could afford after struggling with wet shaving for years. I have tried lower end Phillips rotary shavers before(£40) and found them not to get close enough and are tough on the skin.

Also the charging and cleaning pod is a great way to look after your shaver. If you want a close, comfortable shave, the I suggest you order one of these.
I know it may seem expensive, but treat yourself, they are worth every penny.
After looking on various websites at consumer reviews it looked like I would have to stretch my budget for the best. I am glad I did!!

Outstanding Shaver - cuts as close as a Mach 3, Barry Johnson - 27th April 2009
I've never really got in to the electric razor idea much since the only time I had used one was a cheap Philishave rotary razor which was great at making my face red from friction burn and ripping hair out, but besides torture, that was about it.
I have often wanted to get in to using an electric shaver and for those contemplating one, this is a sure bet. It cuts as close as my Mach 3 Turbo but ...
Click to Read More >with far less irritation.
Best of all, it can be used wet or dry so even if you intend to use it dry and get it wet, it's solid build means it will be OK.
Overall - a great razor I can highly recommend to those using foil, rotary or good ole' fashioned cut throats!

Excellent product and Service, Jeff Baker - 20th April 2009
Speedily delivered and by a clear margin, the best shaver I have ever bought, a vast improvement on the Philips Arcitec I was using. Once again, excellent service from Shavers.co.uk. Kevin was extremely helpful and polite, as usual. A test of a company is its after sales service. Shavers.co.uk excels in that area.
I could not contemplate buying Shaver.co.uk's range of products anywhere else.

Fantastic service.
Odrered on Monday delivered first thing Teusday.
An excellent shaver.
Have previouly had a top of range Braun for 7 years
which was good but not a patch on the panasonic.
Have only used it for 2 days but already very impressed

best of the best, MG - 10th February 2009
Nothing to compare with this shaver! Makes a mockery of the best Philips and Braun have to offer and I have had them all. Only slight against it is the battery life is not a patch on the Arcitec's, but then again at least it shaves you quickly unlike the Arcitec which leaves you with designer stubble whether you want it or not.

Great service , Don - 3rd February 2009
I've always been a Philishave man and tried top end Brauns too but become increasingly dissatisfied with the quality of shave. I've been using the Panasonic for about a month now as a dry shaver for starters and as my skin has got used to it the better it has performed. It is, by far, the best electric shave I have ever had even with my stubble.

I received this shaver at 8.30am the day after placing the order - very impressive service.
First impressions of it are very good, great design and not too heavy. Had a quick shave with it this morning and it seems excllent, but too early to give full review yet.

I can't believe it! I ordered the Pro-curve Shaver at around 4pm yesterday, 22nd January and there it was being delivered at 8am the next morning.
Have yet to use the shaver but if it is anything like the service it will be great. Thanks Shavers, keep up the good work.

Great Shop , Chris - 23rd January 2009
This is a review of both shavers.co.uk and the ES8249.
I bought my first Panasovic (ES89093) some years ago from this shop and have ordered all spares (foils etc) from here since - the service has been exemplary - place an order and it arrives without delay (usually next day) always well packaged. In my book service is worthing paying a bit extra for but with shavers.co.uk you don't need to ...

Now the new shaver - I have used a Panasonic for some years now - perfect for my sensetive skin which nicks and bleeds at the slightest excuse - never with the Panasonic. I thought my old shaver was good but this new model is quieter, has better battery life and lives up to it's claim of a quicker shave.
I cannot recommend the Panasonic range (the ones that rev at 13,000) enough. It does shave closer than a blade and now is faster as well - well done Panasonic for improving on an laready superb product.
Many users in the past have compained of the display allowing moisture in but I have never experienced this, even after replacing the battery on my old model.
Utterly brilliant!

Best I've used!, Sanjeev S - 21st January 2009
I've had Philips rotary & Braun foil shavers. This Panasonic is the best I've used. Quiet, fast and efficient. My only quibble is the cleaning system - Braun's is better. If it wasn't for the cleaning system my rating would have been 10/10.
Outstanding, ecps - 5th January 2009
Some years ago, when I moved to the Panaonic ES8163, it was like stepping into a completely different league. I did not think that it could be bettered - but I was wrong. The ES8249 gives a smoother, faster shave and it is much quieter. Highly recommended (and so are shavers.co.uk who are unbeateable for value for money and efficiency).
A Reconsidered View Point, Grahame E - 1st January 2009
After my first review of this shaver in November I have used my Panasonic Shaver every day.
In my first review I was critical of the cleaning system and the longevity of the cleaning cartridges!
After using the unit more I would like to correct my initial view!
The cleaning unit is excellent, the longevity of the cleaning cartridges is comparable with Brauns. The...
Click to Read More > cleaning time is quick and it only needs one cleaning program as it works so well, the drying facility is excellent too and it leaves the shaver looking as new and dry to the touch.
I based my criticism of the cleaning cart lifespan upon the user manual that states one cartridge will last 30 days! Not So, I am still using my first cartridge and I clean my shaver every other day with it and so far it is has not expired.
I still think the cost of the cartridges is very high though.
The shaver is superb it shaves so close and so gently and is far quicker than my old shaver. I've tried wet shaving as well and it didn't disappoint but to be honest I prefer to use it dry with King Of Shaves Kinexium shaving oil.
I just wish I'd hung on a bit longer seeing as it is now £30 cheaper to buy, but I have no regrets buying this one and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fresh shaving experience.

Best shaver I’ve owned , Unknown - 26th December 2008
First I would like to say thank you for the next day delivery, good service.
This is my second Panasonic shaver I’ve owned, this gives a very smooth close shave and is very comfortable, probably due to the bigger shaving head, this also does a very good job of removing neck hair which my fist Panasonic shaver didn’t.
This is the first shaver I’ve had with a cleaning stand...
Click to Read More >, I done a clean/dry cycle and I have to say it works perfectly which is a bit of a shame as I won’t be buying any more detergent tanks when the supplied one runs out as I can wash it under the tap with soapy water which also works very well and is free lol.

Well Worth The Wait, Grahame E - 25th November 2008
I had to wait for my Panasonic due to stock issues caused by Panasonic but I have to say it was well worth waiting for.
I've always used Braun foil shavers with the exception of one disastrous venture to a Phillips shaver. I've always been very happy with Braun and my most recent acquisition (Activator 8595) was starting to get tired after 4 and a half years and over a 1100 shaves so it was ...
Click to Read More >time to replace it. The guys at Shavers.co.uk were very helpful and recommended the Panasonic over the new Braun Pulsonic which I was considering until I saw the less than favourable reviews on this site.
I'm so glad I took their advice and shelled out the extra £50 for the Panasonic. I've only used it three times so far but already love it. The closeness and shave experience surpasses my Braun with ease. I like the way it feels when shaving, the sensation is gentle and smooth.
I saw it reviewed on the Gadget Show and the guy testing it commented that it didn't feel like it was doing anything now I know what he meant yet the end results are superb.
It is very comfortable to hold as well, the motor is loud but compared to my old Braun no noisier, my braun sounded like a very angry wasp on speed when I switched it on.
Although I am well impressed with the Panasonic there are some comparisons I must make with my Braun in terms of functionality.
My Braun had a counter on it so I knew how many shaves it had done. Not essential I know but handy to have when planning to buy new cutters and foils, I'd find this feature handy on the Panasonic.
The Braun Clean/Charge unit was better designed in my opinion in so far as it knew what cleaning cycle the shaver needed it would then clean and charge the shaver automatically and all from one cleaning cartridge so no need to start putting water into cleaning tanks.
With the Panasonic you have to select the cleaning mode and there is only one cycle to choose but the drying facility in the Panasonic is very good.
But I have to ask WHY does the Panasonic need the clean/charge unit, it's washable and can be cleaned with soap and water using the very clever Sonic Turbo mode. You can recharge by just plugging the mains cord into the shaver. So it seems a bit redundant to me and the cost of the cleaning cartridges is very high compared to Braun.
In argos you get 3 Braun carts for £9.99 whereas only 2 Panasonic ones for the same price and the braun carts last a bit longer too.
Now I can see that this may read as a thumbs up to Braun when reviewing the Panasonic but I have to explain that in my opinion, the Panasonic is head and shoulders above the Braun in terms of the shave quality, speed of shave and ergonomics.
I just have to get used to using the new clean/charge stand as I have gotten very accustomed to the Braun one over the last 4.5 years.
I would rate the Panasonic Shaver as 10 out of 10 but the clean/charge stand based on what I am used to I would only score 8 out of 10 and this is also due to the high cost of the replacement cleaning cartridges and the longevity of them, but overall I score the whole package 10 out of 10.
Lastly a massive thank you to Simon and Kevin at Shavers for keeping me up to speed with the stock issues and for managing to source one for me ahead of their next delivery from Panasonic. And to Simon for all his advice which helped me decide on the Panasonic over the Braun.
As I said well worth the wait and I would recommend this to anyone looking for a fresh shaving experience.
Panasonic may not be mainstream or the first choice for many as Braun/Phillips/Remington are the brands you often think of when considering a shaver but they are well worth paying that bit extra for.
I am sure they would become a market leader if Panasonic marketed it better in the UK as was commented on by someone else who reviewed this model.
I'm pleased as punch with my purchase and the service from Shavers has been second to none.

Good, not perfect, Michael G - 7th September 2008
First, this review is of the shaver, not shavers.co.uk who would get 10/10 - completely superb.
This is a £200 shaver, so one can expect top of the range performance, this is the benchmark for my comments, the key points are:
1. The shave is excellent, a little better than the ES8163 which was excellent
2. The shaver is noisy, as was the ES8163 - this new m...
Click to Read More >odel was a little less noisy, perhaps because my old razor was worn (poor tolerances). A 1300 linear rpm shaver is going to be noisy.
3. The display is nice, however, I'm most concerned about water ingress - the ES8163 display fogged up after a while (just after the warranty ran out), the build quality is much the same as the old model.
4. Just a 1 year warranty with no option to extend it - based on previous Panasonic water ingress issues I'd have liked the option to extend it to 3 years.
Argos don't stock this top of the range model and you get zero advice from them, customer care consists of a teenager who has no idea what he's talking about. However, if you are content with a lower model and want an extended warranty then this seems to be your only option.
I'm more than happy I bought this, I just hope the pleasure lasts and my concerns about the lack of true "waterproof" build coupled with just 1 year warranty for £200 are the reason for a lower mark (70% is still an A though).

Excellent Shave, Steve P - 6th September 2008
I had previously had a Panasonic shaver but went back to Braun purely for the cleaning system. When the new clean system was announced I thought I'd try the Panasonic again. I've not been disappointed as it's a close shave helped, I think, by the new style quad blade head and is easy to clean, although it takes quite a while for the complete programme.
I've also tried the Philips Arcitec which I...

Only 9 out of 10 as battery life when away from home and the cleaning/charging system is fairly short, although not a serious problem and can easily be overcome by taking the mains lead.

I found this product very overpriced and it did not provide a better shave than the cheap electric shaver i currently own.

This purchase was a bit of a gamble. I have previously owned Braun in the past and more recently a top of the range Philishave. I was disappointed with the Philishave and felt this was time for change and broke away from the mainstream manufacturers.

best electric shave I have ever had, ColinBrady - 28th July 2008
Over the years I have tried various electric shavers, and never found one that gave a truly acceptable shave that lasted more than a few hours. SO I have relied upon wet-shaving for a truly clean shave, using an electric for that quick clean-up in the morning, lunchtime, and evening just to avoid looking unshaven.
Most recently I tried the Phillips Arcitec - it would not even remove all my stubb...
Click to Read More >le. I guess my face is definitely a foil-razor face rather then a rotary shaver face.
My last shaver was a Panasonic ES8080, which was the bst I had found and I was reasonably happy with it. But it did not get all my stubble, and as with all shaving methods I got shaving rash on my neck and throat.
For 2 months now, I have been using the ES8249 together with M&M Preshsave Powder Stick. I am getting the cleanest shave I have ever had from an electric razor - AND no razor burn. I don't know if it is the shaver alone or the powder, but they mage a great combination.
Only 2 things dissappoint me with the ES8249 compared to my old ES8080 - the beard trimmer is significantly smaller and does not seem to cut as efficiently, and the shaver cannot be stood vertically on the counter on its end (as the ES8080 could) - that is useful when you have rinsed the shaver under the tap and want to leave it to dry. Hence only 9 points - but for the shave it gives me 10/10.

The Best Electric Shave Ever!, KevinA - 21st July 2008
Just like tonyr, I have also owned nearly every top of the range shaver (including the outrageously over priced Philips Arcitec RQ1095 which under performs in every way)!

Best I've Used, Steven - 19th June 2008
I have heavy thick stubble with awkward neck hair. I've tried top of the range Philips and Braun and this beats them both on closeness and speed. Comfortable shave. Neck still awkward but you get better with improved technique. Cleaner works well. Pricey but worth it. I'm absolutely delighted with this shaver.

I have been using the Panasonic ES8163 for several years now and thought I would treat myself to the latest model.

Finally just to mention that as usual my shaver was delivered in lighting fast time by Shavers.co.UK, superb service as always.

I have been using the shaver for 10 days now, so far only for a dry shave and have been getting an excellent shave with no redness or irritation. The new cleaning system also seem to work well.
I would recommend this shaver to anyone thinking of buying an electric shaver.
Finally just to mention that as usual my shaver was delivered in lighting fast time by Shavers.co.UK, superb service as always.

Spoke to Kevin who told me to send back the arcitec and i would be refunded in full. Went for the top of the range panasonic and some kinexium shave oil (courtesy of kevin) which i received th...

What can I say about this shaver? Well first of all I think it is a terrific shaver. I have always been a fan of the Panasonics. The main advantage they have over the rest of the shaver market is the Linear Drive Motor Unit. When this is linked to a very good foil & cutter system it creates an excellent shave which is close, comfortable & fast.
I previously used the ES8163 which was the former top of the range Panasonic and I didn't think this could be improved upon. However when using the ES8249, which has basically replaced the ES8163, I believe there is a significant improvement.
The foil & cutter system, despite looking quite large with the extra foil, moves with great ease and agility around the face and makes those difficult areas of the jaw line and chin area feel like a walk in the park.
