After having braces on my teeth for 4 years as a teenager, I had a lot of built up staining and tartar that was difficult to shift even with a battery operated toothbrush.

My teeth and gums not only feel cleaner and healthier, but I can see the built up gunk on my teeth disappearing every time I brush. Unfortunately during my orthodontics, some of my scaffolding came loose and has caused a hole on the inside of one of my top incisors, I can't currently afford dental treatment for this and was worried that it would get a lot worse because I couldn't keep it clean. Now I don't have to worry about that. OK so the hole is still there, but I know that the damage is manageable until such a time as I can get it fixed!

PS I use the floss action head and find I can feel it cleaning between my teeth. It doesn't replace flossing but it sure helps loosen the gunk!

Delivered within 12 hours of ordering - amazing.

The product is well made - made in Germany (not China) and well designed. It is powerful and if you're not used to a rotary toothbrush then I suggest you set it to "sensitive" for the first week and then migrate to the default setting. Click to Read More >default it sets a higher speed). If you have braces, you'll need to go buy a special "Ortho" brush. The manual is very good.

This unit has an induction charger - hence no "plugging in" of the hand-held toothbrush into the base station. It does take a full 12 hours to charge from zero and you get 2 weeks brushing if only one person is using it.

The Smart Technology display is useful; I suspect as I get used to using the product then the need for it will diminish - however, for children it's excellent.

Though this product has a 30 day money back scheme, if you read the manual Braun/Oral B say that you can return it at any time in the first 2 years for a refund. Also in the box is a free card so you can extend the warranty to 3 years at no cost. To be honest, the product is so well made that this isn't going to cost the manufacturer much.

Why only 9 out of 10 ?

i) slow charge time

ii) it would be useful if it could remember a particular setting (e.g. sensitive) rather than go to the default

iii) I'd like the Smart unit to be able to display the brushing times of each member of the family (each brush head has a unique Smart Chip). After all, the mount of use is recorded to enable it to tell you when to replace the brush head.

OK - iii) is a bit ambitious but then 10/10 would indicate perfection !

I have been having major problems with both my teeth and gums and I could tell by my dentist's face that she was worried.I have a sonic tooth brush (won't mention any names) but my hygienist suggested I got one with a round head as it would fit round my teeth better. I am terrified of the hygienist as my teeth are so sensitive,but by the time I return she will have so much less tartar to remove that I am looking forward to seeing the pleased expression on her face when she sees my teeth so well done Braun, a FABULOUS product.

A search online suggested that Shavers.co.uk had the best price (far cheaper than Boots, who were selling it at the full list price of £139.99). The purchase process was very straightforward, delivery was swift and packaging was very good.

I also ordered a 4-pack of extra heads but the wrong type of heads were shipped. This problem was resolved very rapidly. Email communications were excellent and replacement heads were shipped the same day. All companies make mistakes from time to time, but their response to such problems tends to separate the good from the bad (or the plain awful!). Shavers.co.uk passed this test with flying colours.

The toothbrush itself has lived up to all my expectations. My teeth have never been so clean. The extra cost of the Smart Guide (especially at a discounted price) is well worth it in my opinion. I'm only half awake first thing in the morning or last thing at night, and a clear indication of when to move from one quadrant of the mouth to another is very useful. My dentist was also pleased to hear that my toothbrush told me when I was pressing too hard (a red warning appears on the Smart Guide).

In summary, an excellent toothbrush from an excellent supplier!
